Gorilla Trekking

Gorilla Trekking is one of Africa’s most remarkable wildlife experiences, allowing visitors to observe endangered mountain gorillas in their natural forest habitat. In Uganda, gorilla trekking takes place primarily in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, which are home to nearly half of the world’s remaining mountain gorilla population.

The adventure begins with a guided hike through dense forests, where experienced rangers track gorilla families using signs such as footprints, nests, and feeding areas. Depending on the gorillas’ location, the trek can last from one to several hours. Once the gorillas are found, visitors are allowed to spend one hour observing them as they feed, play, groom one another, and interact within their family groups.

Gorilla trekking offers a rare opportunity to witness these gentle giants up close while contributing to wildlife conservation and local community development. Revenue from permits supports habitat protection, anti-poaching efforts, and community projects that help preserve the species for future generations.

Beyond the gorillas themselves, the experience provides stunning views of tropical rainforests, diverse birdlife, and unique plant species. Combining adventure, conservation, and unforgettable wildlife encounters, gorilla trekking is widely regarded as one of the most rewarding and life-changing tourism experiences in Uganda and East Africa.
